11月11日 November 11th - Remembrance DayRemember Remembrance Day, for today is November 11, Remembrance Day. Remembrance Day is a day where Canadians and certain other people from other countries come to commemorate those that had suffered from wars and to respect those that died just to protect us and assure that we may live in the peaceful future they intended to make for us. It was originally a day meant for the remembrance of the peace found (a.k.a. when the war ended) during War World I but eventually the meaning of the day became so significant that it became a day to commemorate the sacrifices of other wars. In Canada, usually people would wear a poppy, a red flower/weed, during the Remembrance Week. The red poppy became the symbol of Remembrance Day because of the popularity it got from the poem "In Flanders Field" by Canadian Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae (the poem is even printed on our $10 bill), how it bloom across the fields, through the graves, during the war and how it reminded of the bloodshed in warfare. There would also be two minutes of silence on 11:00 am because that was the time the war was ended by the armistice. The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918. Nonetheless, I think Remembrance Day is a very meaningful day even though it is about an event that happened way before we were born. But still it's a part of history, the lessons we learn from the past so that we can use it in our present, which would affect our future. From this, we should learn the value of peace so that harm wouldn't come to those that we care about. May peace be with you. Peace out!
"In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved, and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields." - John McCrae (1872-1918) 11月1日 November 1November 1 can be a day full of different meanings. One, it can be as simple as being the first day of November and is the start of a new month. Two, it can be "All Saints' Day", the day that comes after Halloween (or "All Hallows' Eve", hence explaining where did Halloween come from because "All Saints' Day" is also known as "All Hallows' Day"). Three, it's also my sister, Stephanie's 7th birthday! So yeah. Nothing much happened today though. Still have that feeling that things weren't done good enough. Like me, I wasn't fully prepared for her birthday. I made this card with a blue pencil-crayon shading, implying the sky, with heavenly themes such as angels and birds because All Saints' Day came in mind and 7 is consider to be related to heaven. So yeah, what not. But what I didn't had prepared was a present. It was until I called my mom to help me get something on her way home from work. She got her this niffty pencil, pen and erasers. Oh well, still quite good. We aso just so happen to be able to buy a Hello Kitty cake even though we didn't order for anything particularly. So that was my day, hope we all have a new start now in this new month. I know I would need it because we're having our mid-term tests starting today, so yeah. After these two weeks, I really ought to have a break. Especially from school, lol. |
